What the Pinterest 2022 trend report means to you and your finances.

Pinterest recently released its annual report Pinterest Predicts 2022 giving us a look into what people are planning for their future. The report compiles data gathered by search results and usage engagement for over 400 million global Pinterest users, and they claim to have predicted 8 out of 10 trends correctly in their 2021 report. Here are some of their predictions in what we’ll be wearing and how we’ll be spending our money over the upcoming 12 months.

What are the Pinterest predictions for 2022? Bejeweled nail art, vibrant fashion colors and gelatin bubble cakes top the lists in the Beauty, Fashion, and Food and Beverage categories, and Pinterest continues to offer no shortage of inspiration for hairstyle trends and life hacks for consumers. Creators and advertisers have been cashing in on the social media platform for over a decade gaining great insight to new trend setting and demographic information. Let’s take a closer look at a few additional categories in the report and consider how these predictions will translate into profits for entrepreneurs looking to capitalize on the upcoming trends.

In their Home category, Pinterest says Millennials and Gen X’ers will be spending their money bringing luxury into their homes investing in “emotional escape rooms”, improving garage interiors, and undertaking high-end laundry room makeovers. Biophilic design will be in high demand as people will be taking house plants to the next level. Pinterest sees searches for “biophilic architecture” and “staircase garden” up over 150%. High-end home projects come with high-end price tags to cover the cost of tools, construction supplies, and hired labor.

In 2022, Pinterest predicts that Millennials, Gen X’ers, and Boomers will all be ready to get out and celebrate in style post-quarantine. Party theme searches with a significant uptick include “Divorce party ideas” and “Empty nest photoshoot”. It seems everyone is eager to celebrate new chapters and fresh starts. Pinterest suggests that people of all age groups will be spending their money hosting big events for all of life’s “undercelebrated” moments in the report’s category Altbashes. Big events typically means big spending at party supply stores, caterers and venue rentals.

According to the 2022 report, several Finance trends are driven by Millennials’ interest in getting their financial house in order. Whether it is improving their own financial literacy or looking for ways to turn hobbies into lucrative businesses. Searches for “investment property for beginners” has an increase of 45%, “mobile business ideas” an increase of 100%, and “becoming a realtor” an increase of 135%. Millennials in particular are looking for inspiration to put their money to work.

Pinterest Predicts opens a window into the future and gives us a good look at how people across the globe are looking to spend their time, creative talent, and money.
